Pothan Iype’s 3rd son, Ipe was engaged in farming along with his brother Yohannan. The 300 acres of forest land bought in Vazhoor was cleared and cultivated adventurously. Like his predecessors, he was keenly interested in ecclesiastical matters. Ullayam St. George Jacobite church and Ericadu St. Mary’s Jacobite church were established on his land that was given for free. He dedicated his son, Philipose to the service of the church and encouraged him to take priesthood at an early age. He also showed keen interest in setting up a school at Mattathilparambil, on the side of the Kottayam – Karukachal road.
Varghese was a hard worker and a good natured entertainer. Due to his deep knowledge in carpentry, many people came to him for advise in preparing the estimates and position of their home. Puthuppally Vazheparambil Annamma was his wife. Since she died earlier, he married Annamma (Kunjannamma), the daughter of Ancheri Ilakkattukadupil Joseph Kathanar. In the first marriage, there were sons Iype, Philipose & daughters Aleyamma, Mariamma and Sosamma. In the second marriage, there were sons Varghese, Joseph, John, Abraham, Rajan & daughters Thankamma and Saramma. Thankamma died at an young age. Ipe Varghese passed away on 4th March 1962 at the age of 82 and Kunjannamma passed away on 31st August 1983 at the age of 74. Both were buried at St. Mary’s Jacobite church, Ericadu.
