Kurian Iype Jr Aikkarottu Mannaparambil (6)

Iype Kurian (Jr)’s only son Kurian Iype (Jr) stayed at Aikkarettu homestead. It is his descendants that belong to the Mannaparambil branch. Kurian Iype (Jr) was born on the 20^th April 1852. His father Iype Kurian (Jr) died at a very young age (at 19^th year). His mother was Vakathanam Madathipparambil Achamma. Kurian Iype married Mariamma, who was the daughter of Kanjirathinmmoottil Manjathuruthel Mathaichan. They had two sons named Kurian and Mathai & a daughter named Shoshappi. When Mathai was one and a half years old, his mother Mariamma died. After the death of his wife, Iype gave more concentration to his children’s education and other matters. His honesty, simple way of life, deep piety and philanthropy are particularly noteworthy. Although generally calm, his innate sense of humor and business acumen were revealed when dealing with others. Kandathil Varghese Mappila, the founder of Malayala Manorama, once said: “I have never met a villager who has such world wisdom as Mannaparambil Iypachen.” He spent the lion’s share of his income on charity. He was among the prominent people who founded Nilackal church at Puthuppally along with Kuzhiyadithara Pothan Iype. Iype’s only daughter Soshappi was married to Kottayam Puthanangadi Kurishummootil Ulahannan Lukose. People used to come to pray on weekdays at the Kurishupally and Shosappi performed the task of opening it as an offering, until her death. Soshappi & Ulahannan had sons namely John, Iype and Cherian. Kurian Iype died on 31^st May 1902 at the age of 50. He was cremated at Nilackal Orthodox church.
