Pothan Iype, the third son of Kuzhiyadithara Kurian Pothan, moved to Kallarackal homestead. It is his descendants that belong to the Kallarackal branch. Pothan, who was member of a farmer heroes family, was the first father to be attracted to the church reform movement. Even though he stood firmly in the Malankara Jacobite church, he gave generous contributions and sincere co-operation for building of the church at Kozhimala by the C.M.S. missionaries, for the backward community Christians. At that time, C.M.S. missionaries and Malankara church worked in co-operation. It was the activities of Vidwankutty Achan, the founder of ‘Yuyomaaya’ movement, in this area that first caused the spiritual passion in Iype. Although he joined and worked in the movement for a short period, he did not leave Malankara church. It was at that time that the church reform movement started in Malankara church. He showed great interest in that movement and worked in support of that movement. When the church reform movement was finally transformed into the Marthoma church, he regularly went to Manganam Marthoma church and participated in the services. His work also caused some Ezhava families to accept Christianity. All these actions prove that Iype was a spiritual zealot. Iype married the sister of Kurichi Valyathil Philippochen (who was the trustee of Puthuppally Valiyapally). They had sons, Iype, Yohannan, Varghese and a daughter, Sosamma. Sosamma was married to Pulickal Itty. They had sons, Iype (Kunjuiype), Kunjappan, and a daughter named Ilachiyamma.
