Mathew, the fourth son of Iype Yohannan, was born on the 15th January 1915. He obtained a B.Com. from Culcutta University. After obtaining a diploma in Physical Education, from the Y.M.C.A. college of Physical Education, Chennai, he started working in the field of sports. He served as a teacher at Samoothiri college, Kozhikode, St. Aloysius college, Mangalore and C.M.S. college, Kottayam. He was a member of the governing committees of various sports organizations in Kottayam. He was the first Secretary of the District Sports council. Mathew, who was interested in politics, was a freedom fighter. He was the first President of the undivided Congress of Puthuppally constituency. He served as a member of Puthuppally Gramapanchayath. He has served as the Honorary Administrative officer of Mundakapadam Mandiram hospital. He was the president of Puthuppally Wisemen’s club. After retiring from college, he has been engaged in public affairs and agriculture. He is the Vice President of Ericadu Moria Marthoma church. He has given valuable contributions in political, social, cultural and communal fields. He is a person who takes a strong stance and constantly fights for truth and justice. He is the Vice President of Puthenpurackal Kudumbayogam. At 100, Mathew is the oldest member of the family. He married Vakathanam Ennasseril Mangalath Ammini. They live in the family house. They have sons, John, Abraham, Iype and daughters, Ashly and Sybil. Ammini passed away on 23rd April 2011 at the age of 89. She was cremated at Ericadu Moria Marthoma church.
