Mathew, the 4th son of Iype Yohannan obtained B.Com. degree from Culcutta University. After obtaining diploma in Physical Education from the Y.M.C.A. college of Physical Education, Chennai he started working in the field of sports. He served as a teacher at Samoothiri college, Kozhikode, St. Aloysius college, Mangalore and C.M.S. college, Kottayam. He was a member of the governing committees of various sports organizations in Kottayam. He was the first Secretary of the District Sports council. T.J. Mathew, who was interested in politics was also a freedom fighter. He was the first President of the undivided Congress in Puthuppally constituency. He served as a member of the Puthuppally Grama Panchayath. He served as the Honorary Administrative officer of Mundakapadam Mandiram hospital. He was also the president of Puthuppally Y’s Men’s club. After retiring from C.M.S. college, he engaged in various public affairs and agriculture. He was the Vice President of Ericadu Moria Marthoma church. Thus he gave valuable contributions in political, social, cultural and communal fields. He was a person who took a strong stance and constantly fought for truth and justice. He was the Vice President of Puthenpurackal Kudumbayogam. At 100, T.J. Mathew was the oldest member in the family. He married Vakathanam Ennasseril Mangalath Ammini. They lived in the family house at Ericadu. They had sons, John, Abraham, Iype and daughters, Ashly and Sybil. T.J. Mathew passed away on 1st November 2015 at the age of 101 and Ammini passed away on 23rd April 2011 at the age of 89. Both were cremated at Ericadu Moria Marthoma church.
